JAMESTOWN — Buffalo Days events can be found around the city on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 22-24. They include a parade, children’s carnival, mini art hunt and a car show.
Connie Kleven, executive coordinator for the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce which organizes the parade, said she is expecting many entries. Those participating do not need to register and should line up at McElroy Park behind Cash Wise and the ball diamonds starting at 8 a.m. The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. and will head north from McElroy Park on 2nd Avenue to 8th Street Southeast. It will then turn west on 8th Street to First Avenue and continue north on First Avenue, ending by Sabir’s Buffalo Grill.
Breakfast will be served before the parade starting at 7 a.m. at the Jamestown Fire Department and will run until noon. The 11th annual breakfast features sausage, pancakes, Cavendish potato rounds, milk, juice, water and coffee.
Jim Reuther, fire chief, said the freewill donation breakfast will be served by Fire Department personnel and some honorary life members may be helping as well.
“This is just a way to give back and if somebody wants to put a freewill donation in, they sure can,” he said.
Reuther said thousands of dollars in firefighting equipment have been purchased with donated funds raised at the breakfast each year. The department was also able to give $25,000 from donated funds to the city of Jamestown to help purchase Ladder 1, the city’s ladder truck.
“We’re just so thankful that everybody has supported this,” Reuther said of the breakfast. “We’ve fed up to over 1,200 people in 5 hours. … it’s just so supportive and what’s really nice about it, we get to visit with some people. Some people have never been in the fire station before. Had no reason to come here. …We’d just like to thank everybody who’s attended in the past and we hope we see them this weekend.”
If you’re interested in searching for art, the Mini-Art Hunt begins at 10 a.m. The clues will be released starting then on The Arts Center’s Facebook page and if you find a piece, it’s yours to keep.
“This year’s Mini-Art Hunt pieces were created, hand carved by our wood carving club,” said Angela Martini, advertising and communications specialist for The Arts Center.
“There are 12 pieces,” she said. “Twelve different bears, all with a different-colored heart …”
The Wood Chippers Carving Club created the brown bears that will be placed at parks and historical sites throughout Jamestown.
“It’s kind of a theme of ‘Love the parks and get a bear hug,’” Martini said.

Three photo clues to each bear’s hiding spot will be released on The Arts Center’s Facebook page at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Martini said they won’t be hidden only at historical sites and in larger parks but in smaller parks as well.
“They’re in plain sight,” Martini noted. “Nothing has to be moved, damaged, dug up.”
Any bear that is found may be kept but after finding one, let The Arts Center know, Martini said.
“The most important thing is, other than getting out and enjoying our parks, is to report it back to us so that we don’t have families out there searching for already found pieces,” she said. “It’s really disappointing.”
Each bear will have a little information on it explaining the hunt in case the finder was not aware of the event. The Arts Center asks that if you find more than one bear, only keep one.

Tent City and living history demonstrations are planned from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Fort Seward on Saturday, following a weekend of events to celebrate its 150th anniversary. Jen Marks, site supervisor, said tents will be set up featuring life from the 1870s, with each tent featuring an aspect of life during that time. That includes a school tent, seamstress tent, officer’s family tent, barracks and a laundress station, for example.
There will be clothing that people can try and a laundress station where people can do the “10 steps” of laundry, she said.
There will be old-fashioned games and toys for children.
“We’re going to try to make it as hands-on that we can,” Marks said of activities.
A croquet tournament, which was called off last weekend due to the heat will be held if it’s not too hot, she said. There will be three games and the winners of those three games will play for the championship, with small prizes awarded.
The Fort Seward Interpretive Center will be open as well.
Other events at Fort Seward include a 1 p.m. watermelon eating contest for children ($2 charge) and adults ($5) and 3 p.m. relay races that are soldier and laundress based, she said.
McElroy Park events
The park will be the site of the Buffalo Rally Car Show & Shine from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., along with a vendor show and Jamestown Inflatables. Stick Ponies performs from 2 to 4 p.m.
Other events
The GCA Thrive Kids Carnival is in Hansen Arts Park from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. GCA Thrive is a nonprofit organization that builds a path to independence for individuals in Africa, according to its website,

. At the carnival, there will be food and drinks available for purchase and games, with a suggested donation of 10 games for $10.
Other events include a civics exhibit at the 1883 Stutsman County Courthouse from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with Grant Invie performing country Western music there at 1 p.m.
Also scheduled are a cornhole tournament in downtown Jamestown and street dance near the Corner Bar.
